President Muhammadu Buhari inaugurated the Lekki deep seaport and Imota rice mill projects in Lagos on Monday.
The deep seaport, built by China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd (CHEC) and occupying 90 hectares of land, is set to begin commercial operations in 2023 and will allow 18,000 TEU capacity vessels, reducing container transportation costs.
The Imota rice mill, with a capacity to produce 2.8 million bags of rice annually, is aimed at addressing food insecurity and is expected to create 1,500 direct and 254,000 indirect jobs.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu stated that efforts will be made to alleviate traffic and commuting issues at the seaport and reduce unemployment in Nigeria.
Buhari is set to commission the John Randle centre for Yoruba culture and history and begin the construction of the blue line rail phase 2 (Mile 2 to Okokomaiko) on Tuesday, January 24.
