Former head of state Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar has jokingly stated that he and some of his contemporaries would leave Nigeria if Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), were to be elected as the leader of the nation.
The statement was made during a National Peace Committee meeting in Abuja, where Sowore was asked by the former Nigerian leader to reconcile with Major Hamza Mustapha, the candidate for the Action Alliance.
Sowore responded that his disagreement with Mustapha was political, and that he has issues with all those who annulled the June 12, 1993 elections, including Abubakar.
Responding, Abubakar said: “Sowore, you are talking about 20 years ago. By the time you become the president of this country, I think some of us will leave this country.
Abubakar also stated that Sowore should let bygones be bygones and move on with what is currently in front of them.
