COVID-19: NCDC speaks on new variant in Nigeria

The NCDC disclosed this in an update on COVID-19 genomic surveillance signed by its Director General (DG), Dr Ifedayo Adetifa.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday, January 04, 2022, said the COVID-19 Omicron sub-lineages partly responsible for the current increase in the virus’ cases in China, the United Kingdom (UK), and the United States, have not yet been detected in the country.

Adetifa, however, said B.5.2.1 has been seen in Nigeria since July 2022.
