The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. C.A. Adedayo, ordered that the suspect be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending the advice of the state Director of Public Prosecution. A Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday charged a policeman, Drambi Vandi, with murder for allegedly shooting and killing a Lagos-based female lawyer, Bolanle Raheem, on Christmas Day.
A count of murder was attached to the application for remand.
Adedayo ruled that the remand order was for the first thirty days while the case was being investigated by the police.
She directed that a duplicate of the case file be sent to the DPP for advice.
For the DPP’s advice and the review of the remand order, Adedayo postponed the case until January 30.
Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, had briefed the court and requested that Vandi be remanded.
In anticipation of the DPP’s advice, the commissioner pleaded with the court to remand the suspect.
In accordance with Section 264 of the 2015 Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State, Onigbanjo submitted an application for remand.
He argued that the reason for the remand was to let the police finish their investigation.
The charge, which was signed by the DPP, Babajide Martins, stated, “That you, ASP Drambi Vandi, on Dec. 25, 2022 at Ajah Road, along the Lekki Expressway, Lagos, unlawfully killed one Omobolanle Raheem, by shooting the deceased in the chest, contrary to Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.?
According to NAN, Raheem was reportedly shot to death on December 25 in Lagos while she and her family were out celebrating Christmas.
Vandi was joined to the Ajiwe Police Division in Ajah, Lagos State, at the hour of the supposed homicide.
